The lab itself is finished and our tools and supplies have finally been moved in. Today we brought the fossils we will work on in the coming weeks up from the basement. The Camarasaurus pieces are huge, of course. Big Joe, a pallet lifting machine, was rolled in to move the dinosaur pieces and the large rhino jackets.

Tomorrow I will open up a plaster jacket containing (from what they could see in the field) rhino hips and vertebrae. We put it up on the table and realized it's so tall that we have to lower the table in order for me to work on it. Big Joe to the rescue again! Allen S. will start the work on the Camarasaurus Saturday. He'll start with some vertebrae. That specimen has been in our basement forever just waiting to be prepared and mounted.

Alan T. will bring up some matrix for us to sort through for tiny mammal fossils. And then I think we're ready to go. We'll keep you posted on the surprises and frustrations we come across. One thing about paleontology is that it is predictably unpredictable.
